I Looked

I looked is an exploration of personal experience and knowledge. Some of our most powerful knowledge comes through experiences that are dangerous, or that we have been warned against. Like looking at the sun, a potentially blinding yet loaded experience. I looked was shot on an iphone. This device’s aspect ratio anchors the footage in the personal. This single-shot video moves from the comfort of a domestic dwelling to the ‘no man’s land’ of an industrial building, is held on the sun for as long as the artist could endure its blinding light, and then rests on the sidewalk. The sidewalk anchors both the shooter and the viewer in the reality of daily existence again; though the experience of that reality is forever changed because I looked.
