Hogan's Alley

1994, 32:00 minutes, English

TAPECODE 9809

Through oral histories and photographs Vancouver's Black community, once centred in Hogan's Alley, is explored. Three women tell their personal stories growing up and living in a community of Vancouver that was destroyed by the construction of a highway overpass, known as the Georgia Viaduct. The family, work, church, and nightlife are remembered fondly and contextualized with the realities of racism, homophobia, the depression and WWII.
