In the video, I sit in/through/on the chair in question. My recorded movements are slowed down, and three perspectives of the chair are presented, with and without the sitter. The space is neutral yet institutional. When the humorous moment passes and its absurdity accepted, the stillness resonates. How much of the action can be considered correct? I am sitting in the chair, mostly. Straddling both as still life and life drawing model, the boundaries between corporeality and materialism, subject and object are troubled. The work addresses the ways women's bodies are typically consumed and playfully interrogates those assumptions while exploring questions about objecthood and desire. Using an armchair that alludes to the domestic space, the work offers a study of interiority.
Please note because this video is vertical, the black bars are added by default. When installed correctly on a vertical monitor, the video fills the screen. This is for preview purposes.
My practice stands between historical interrogation, personal experience, and the conceptual trajectories of contemporary art within an object-oriented framework. I am interested in complex overlaps and fleshy folds: the space where the "political" person and "personal" person meet, merge and overlay. My work's exploration concentrates on performative actions and the methods we use to engage with objects.
