Tenochtitlan, now named Mexico City, was an ancient centre of ritual and trade. In Tenochtitlan, contemporary outsiders become inhabitants who compete for goods and space. The outsider sails from Staten Island and arrives by ferry, like an immigrant (who is heard describing a refugee camp.) Travelling north, the outsider considers the Avenue of Americas, and finds the way to the souvenir stand on top of the Empire.
