Stain

Rae Staseson

1994, 03:49 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 434.13

Stain combines the director's interest and experience of performance / video with the prevalence of product demos as seen on commercial television. This style of programming, whether an "infomercial" or a two-minute spot, attempts to sell products under the guise of regular TV formats; blurring the line between information and advertising; science and entertainment; "real time" television and edited fiction. This tape mixes video technique, animation- like images with performative studio demonstrations.
Stain explores themes of domesticity, erotica and the unexplored aesthetics of mundane activity. These themes are ideal for the home-based target audience such advertisements are aimed at and allows the director to expand her responses to representations of stereotypical women's work.
Humourous and engaging visuals & audio.
