Dutch artist Aernout Mik has risen to international acclaim since representing the Netherlands in 1997 at the Venice Biennale with his psychologically charged video projections, characterized by a blend of uneasy absurdity and uncanny realism. His work examines the dynamics of the social, political and aesthetic relationships of everyday life through a dialogue with architectural space that disorients and calls perception into question. In this video, Mik discusses his ideas and processes with a focus on his first major North American exhibition, held at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto, Canada from September 22 - November 18, 2001.
