Pretty Girl (Two Channel Video Installation)
2008, 02:40 minutes, colour
TAPECODE 969.03
In the video installation Pretty Girl topics of power, conditioning and comportment are raised. Instructions to behave in a certain manner, which are addressed to the "pretty girl", are confronted by the mise en scéne in the shopping window. Here the voice serves no longer as indicator for role models or sexual identity, but starts a game of who is saying what to whom. Thus I confront imitation as basic pattern of (human) behavior to an
autonomous self term – in dialogue with the people passing by in the street, who become actors in the video.
The mute text is projected onto a wall and running synchronized to the image on the monitor, separated and connected at the same time to its sound emtting through the exhibition space – like a subconscious pattern.
