Part One: Getting The Story. Dramatic television footage of the 1984 Ethiopian famine launched a major relief effort, yet those pictures almost didn't get aired. Getting The Story shows how the politics of newsroom decisions determine which world events the North American public hears about, and how this shapes Western attitudes towards Thirld World nations.
Part Two: Shaping The Image. Was Live Aid an outpouring of generosity or a celebration of Rock and Roll? Shaping the Image explores how Western celebrities are used to raise relief funds at the expense of analyzing the causes of famine and developing realistic solutions. It also features Africans responses to Western images of their reality.
Part Three: Selling The Feeling. Live Aid was one of the first mega-events to be used as a relief tool. Selling the Feeling focuses on another mega-event, Hands Across America, and shows how organizers avoided exposing the political decisions which led to increasing hunger and homelessness in North America.
