Ruben Guzman was born and raised in Argentina but relocated to Canada in 1988. Since then, he has been living and working in both countries as a professor, media arts curator, programmer and media artist. He holds a Diploma in Fine Arts with a Major in Film and Video (ECUAD, Canada).

His media production spans from photography to media arts, from video and experimental film to peripheral documentaries. He has developed a personal view that explores the intersections between the different film genres and between light and dark.

His work has been shown in relevant solo and group exhibitions including the 2008 Mar del Plata International Film Festival, IDFA International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, IMPAKT, EMAF Oberhausen, Anthology Film Archives, International Short Film Festival, Clermont Ferrand, Festival des Cinemas Differents de Paris, Images Festival, Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival, Videoex, Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, Video D.U.M.B.O., Videobrasil, Ethnographic Film Festival of Montréal, Rencontres Internationales du Documentaire de Montreal, Microwave International Media Art Festival Hong Kong Videoformes, Mediawave and Cinematheque Ontario.

As media arts curator, he has worked at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Palacio Nacional de las Artes, Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Fundación Proa, Goethe Institute and Cinematheque Ontario, among others.

His grants and awards include: Production Grant, Canada Council for the Arts, Canada (2009); FEP Grant - Canadian Studies Program Grant, Canada (1999); National Grant, Audiovisual Media, Fondo Nacional de las Artes, Argentina (1998); Jury’s Honorable Mention, ICI Centro Cultural Español, Buenos Aires, Argentina (1996); Special Mention, Linz, Austria (1994); Bronze Bear Award and Special Mention, Linz, Austria (1993); PAFPS, National Film Board of Canada (NFB/ONF); and various ECUAD and B.C. Cultural Fund Scholarships for his education from 1990-92.
