Cream Soda

Janis Cole and Holly Dale

1975, 13:00 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 2162.05

In their first short film Cole and Dale give audiences a rare and candid look inside a private sex parlour during the height of Toronto’s mid-seventies body-rub industry. Their direct cinema approach blends cinéma vérité observation with probing interviews. We see customers come and go and hear the women talk openly about their trade while in the dressing room getting ready to work their shift. The two student filmmakers shot and recorded their film with unprecedented access to the women who work there, and are their friends.

Winner, 1975 Best Student Film, Sheridan College, Oakville
